  • … my daughter was in public school for pre-k through 1st. She had an IEP because of suspected autism, and had a couple math related IEP goals but nothing related to number sense. I didn’t even know what number sense WAS until a year into home schooling, I could not figure out why math was such a struggle! One day I asked her to show me 7 fingers (this was early 3rd grade), and she had to look down and count one by one, and even then didn’t show me 7. I realized she basically had zero number sense and the names of numbers may as well have been random items! We’ve come a long way but it’s been challenging to find a good fit in curriculum.
